Bisque painting is a craft in which layers of water-based paint are applied to a non-glazed piece of bisque and allowed to dry, before being dipped into a glaze concoction and fired at 1000°c.

Traditional porcelain china-painting uses colour powders mixed with various chemicals/mediums which are applied over the pre-glazed and fired article, which is then re-fired at much higher temperatures. The paint and the glaze melt and combine as a single layer.

Here are some examples of both bisque pottery and porcelain.
